Diamond Sold For £23.1m
Posted By Simon Wiser
A rare giant diamond gemstone has recently been sold for a staggering amount. This is one of the largest diamond gemstones to ever be found and it was discovered last year in South Africa. The gemstone was recently sold for a massive £23.1m. According to experts, the diamond is of an incredible quality. It was discovered in the famous and renowned Cullinan mine and it was not the only sparkler to be discovered there. The diamond was discovered along with a 168 carat diamond and two other smaller diamonds each of 58 carats. The huge 507 carat diamond gemstone was sold last week to a Hong Kong based jewellery company. It was bought for $35.3m (£23.1m). According to Johan Dippenaar, CEO of Petra’s Diamonds, the diamond stone was sold at the right amount according to its worth and it achieved the highest sale price for a rough diamond. Johan Dippenaar has said he thinks that the Cullinan Heritage has the potential of producing the world’s most valuable polished gems. According to records, the world’s largest diamond gemstone was around 3,106 carats. This diamond was then cut into nine separate gemstones for diamond jewellery. Some of these stones have been used in the British Crown Jewels. Comments: Add your comment Once submitted, your comment must be approved by the Moderator and should be included within 48 hours. |
